The mission of the Cloquet Forestry Center is to connect people and ideas to build understanding of northern forest ecosystems through field-based research, education, and outreach.
Educational Mission: At CFC, we provide undergraduate students with intensive field experiences that are essential to professions related to forestry. Graduate students work to develop their research skills and increase their knowledge of forest ecosystems and forest practices.
Research Mission: The center hosts long-term and controlled studies that benefit Minnesota’s 17 million acres of commercial forest land. This research is designed to improve the management of Minnesota’s timber, recreation, wildlife, soil, and water resources on forested lands.
Outreach: We offer a variety of classroom- and field-based learning opportunities to inform natural resource managers and the public about practical applications of relevant research. Many of these programs are offered through the Sustainable Forests Education Cooperative.
